History

A brief outline of our history

18th and 19th centuries

The origins of our pharmacy date back to before 1782. The first records show that it was located at Obere Hauptgasse 62 in the centre of Thun.

  • 1786: After the death of the then owner, the former town clerk A. Kocher, the pharmacy was sold to G. Scheidegg, a citizen and alderman of the town of Thun.
  • 1829: The pharmacist H. J. Gutnick took over the business for 9'800 Bernese crowns.
  • 1835: Just a few years later, the pharmacy was sold to F. E. Seippel, also a pharmacist, this time for 25'000 Swiss francs.
  • 1854: After Seippel's death, the business was sold to L. J. Wunderlich.
  • 1865: The pharmacy passed to J. A. Kocher, who ran it until 1899, when it was transferred to his son F. W. Kocher.

20th century to present day

In the 20th and early 21st centuries, further important changes of ownership and modernisations shaped the development of the pharmacy:

  • 1909: After the death of F. W. Kocher, his widow initially took over the business; when she remarried, the pharmacy later passed to V. Borner.
  • 1912: The pharmacist M. W. Schmid buys the pharmacy and runs it until 1954. He is particularly valued in Thun for his knowledge of homeopathy.
  • 1954: Sale to Dr Franz Egger.
  • 1985: Thomas and Corina Fellmann take over the pharmacy, completely renovate it and give it the new name ‘Schlossapotheke’ (Castle Pharmacy).
  • 1997: Merger with the Rathaus-Apotheke, further renovation and relocation to Obere Hauptgasse 33.
  • 2019: Corina and Thomas Fellmann hand over the Schlossapotheke to their successor Erich Gubler.
